Better Generation Solutions is delighted to share that Dr Thomas Tatchell recently delivered a TEDx talk at TEDx Swansea entitled “What Should Education Look Like for Our Future Generations?”

The talk explored a simple but powerful question: if we are educating young people for a future that will be fundamentally different from today, why does so much of our education system still look remarkably similar to the one designed for the past?

Drawing upon more than twenty years of experience in education, leadership and curriculum development, Tom challenged audiences to reconsider the purpose of education in a world facing unprecedented technological, environmental and societal change. The talk examined how artificial intelligence, climate change, demographic shifts, sustainability challenges and evolving employment patterns are reshaping the skills, capabilities and mindsets that future generations will need.

Rather than focusing solely on knowledge acquisition and examination performance, the presentation explored the importance of developing creativity, adaptability, futures thinking, collaboration, resilience and the capacity to navigate uncertainty. It also highlighted the role of education in helping learners become active contributors to society, capable of addressing complex global challenges through innovation, empathy and collective action.

The talk drew inspiration from the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and emerging international approaches to Futures Literacy, encouraging educators, leaders, employers and policymakers to think differently about how education can better prepare learners for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the entire TEDx Swansea team for creating such a professional, supportive and inspiring event. It was a privilege to contribute to a programme that brought together diverse perspectives, innovative ideas and meaningful conversations about the future.

At Better Generation Solutions, we believe that the future is not something that simply happens to us. It is something we actively create through the decisions we make today. We hope this talk encourages educators, organisations, communities and policymakers to continue asking bold questions about the future of learning and to work together to create education systems that equip future generations not only to succeed, but to thrive.

We hope this creates a ripple of change that inspires new conversations, new ideas and new possibilities for generations to come.
